Introducing the design
The masterplan will be brought forward in phases, but has been designed to create an integrated and vibrant new community which will bring this area to life during the day and into the evening.
The masterplan includes:
- The first phase of the scheme involves the demolition of existing buildings on the site along with the refurbishment and extension of the existing office building at the south of the site to provide a new 182-bed hotel. Demolition across the site is now underway and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2016. A planning application for the new hotel has been submitted and approved, and the main building works are due to get underway in Spring 2017.
- Five new towers, ranging from 11 to 41 storeys, providing high-quality residential accommodation. A total of around 780 residential units are proposed, with a mix of sizes and flexibility of tenure type. These new residences will benefit from private terraces and balconies, as well as communal gardens at third floor level, providing attractive and peaceful spaces.
- At the lower levels, an exciting mix of business units, business incubator spaces, cafés and other amenities, will line a new green, pedestrian-friendly corridor that weaves through the site, linking Bridge Street to Regent Street.
- Improvements to the Bridge Street underpass with sensitive restoration of the glazed tile façade, improved lighting and new accessible paving.
